E-mail blast

Hello West Campus Families,

We begin the course request process for the 2024-2025 school year this week.  Over the next two weeks, counselors and administrators will be presenting course options in classroom visits to students. Once the classroom visits have concluded, the presentation slides will be available to review.  Students will have access to enter their course requests until Thursday, December 21, 2023.

Upon logging into their Infinite Campus account, students will find some course requests already filled in, but they can be altered if they wish to choose differently. The selection for Advanced Placement (AP) or honors courses was made using AP Potential. CollegeBoard offers suggestions for AP courses based on PSAT and SAT scores. We utilized the scores from our October PSAT administration to recommend students for AP and honors English and Social Science courses. However, students who weren’t recommended can still request these advanced classes.

Quick Guidance for parents navigating the course request process:

  • Ask your student to inform you about the course offering presentation from counselors and administrators – students might not know the exact timing. Parents can let students know they would like to discuss course selection following the presentation.
  • Support your student in planning their courses not just for the upcoming year but also considering their trajectory towards high school graduation.
  • It is recommended that every student take at least one AP class over the course of their four years at WCHS.
  • Students are cautioned not to overextend themselves - when planning course requests keep in mind extra curricular activities that may limit time available to devote to academics.
  • Check below for a link to our course descriptions page which can provide information regarding available classes.

Our theater group will perform Mean Girls this coming Friday and Saturday evening.  Tickets are available online for $10.  See below for a link to purchase tickets.

Students and parents, please be mindful at pick up and drop off.  We have heard from our community that there are frequent dangerous situations involving students parking in the community.  If you are parking in the neighborhood or dropping off or picking up in the neighborhood, please remember to drive slow and use caution.  As a reminder, the back parking lot is for staff parking during the school day and should not be used for drop off or pick up during regular school hours.

Thank you,

John McMeekin – WCHS Principal

Post

Thank you to those who came to Coffee with the Principal this past Friday and for your support of the pie and olive oil fundraisers. With your help, the Foundation was able to fulfill over 63% of the requests through the school supplies drive this Fall, which we are considering a success as this was our inaugural year. On behalf of the staff, thank you so much! We are grateful for our community. We hope you have a safe and happy holiday and new year.
