Layla's Scholarship Entry

Principal’s Message

Hello West Campus Families,

Today we continued our celebration of Black History Month with our Black Excellence Panel discussion.  We were capped at 300 people, so I apologize to students or families that attempted to join after we hit that limit and were unable to join.  Please access this video to watch the panel discussion.  The event was eye-opening and educational for all involved.  Thank you to our panelists!

This past Friday was the lunar new year.  We know that many families will be celebrating the start of the year of the Ox!

Ninth grade families, please plan to join us tomorrow evening for our Freshmen Town Hall.  We will be providing time to meet with parents of upper grade students as well as sharing some of the events that are upcoming and ways for ninth grade students to engage in the larger student community.  Meeting details:

Meeting ID: 868 3105 8980

Passcode: Town09

Make sure to sign up for our paint night!  The deadline to register is this Friday.  Lastly, please help us support our student, Layla Schultz earn a $10,000 scholarship by voting for her art selection (vote here). A screenshot of her art selection is highlighted on the the upper right corner of this newsletter.

Self-Care Corner

Welcome to another week Warriors,

I understand this may come as a shocking revelation, but we are no longer attending school in person. With this lack of an in person date and time to establish a schedule around, it is easier than ever to quietly lose track of days at a time without a strong schedule. In the midst of quarantine, self-discipline and scheduling are the last things many of us are considering but it may be surprising the degree to which a strong routine can improve daily life.

Nm.org cites many different and important health benefits that come with a routine including reduced stress, better sleep, and better physical condition. Creating a schedule or routine in whatever form you are comfortable with can be done with assistance from websites such as Monday.com and Google Calendar, though personally I find it particularly simple and effective to use the Calendar app on my phone/computer. It may seem as if it’s not for you, but it’s worth a shot: try establishing a daily routine for a week or two.

Have a great rest of your week, stay healthy :)

Teen Dating Violence Awareness:

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

Throughout February, organizations and individuals nationwide are coming together to highlight the need to educate young people about dating violence, teach healthy relationship skills and prevent the devastating cycle of abuse. With their adult allies, youth activists achieved a major victory in 2005 and 2013 when the importance of addressing teen dating abuse was highlighted in the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Both Chambers of Congress have declared the entire month of February to teen dating violence awareness and prevention.
