Band Information for 2021 – 2022 School Year:

Two different band classes are now offered at West Campus High School! Please see descriptions below to learn about the classes.

For current information about safety precautions for COVID-19 and music activities outside of school hours, please contact Ms. Fonseca at westcampusband@gmail.com or Briana-Fonseca@scusd.edu

1st Period Band: This is a Modern Band class using curriculum developed by the K-12 music program Little Kids Rock. Students will learn basic music theory and song writing skills while circulating on drums, guitar, and piano. Students will then choose 1 or 2 instruments to focus on and form their own groups while learning genres such as pop, rock, hip hop, cumbia, reggae, and more! No prior music experience is needed, but all skill levels are welcome. Students have the ability to repeat the course if desired.

If groups are interested in singing, class will be held outdoors due to district safety precautions for COVID-19.

6th Period Band: This is a traditional concert and pep band featuring instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba, marimba, concert snare drum, and more. Students will learn basic music theory, play classical and modern music in a concert band ensemble, rehearse and perform solo pieces, and rehearse and perform small group pieces based on their skill level. No prior music experience is needed but is preferred. Students are able to repeat the course if desired.

Due to district safety precautions for COVID-19, this class will be held outdoors and wind players will be required to wear the SCUSD-provided performance masks.
