Equity Team – Challenge Week 3
Week of May 1, 2023 - May 5, 2023
Anti-Racist Definition: One who is supporting an antiracist policy through their actions or expressing an antiracist idea.
Being anti-racist does not require that you always know the right thing to say or do in any given situation but that you take action and work against racism wherever you find it including, and perhaps most especially, in yourself.
Main Challenge
- Check out this 3 minute video on the difference between non-racist and anti-racist: Are you racist? No isn’t good enough video.
- Review this list of 28 Common Racist Attitudes and Behaviors by Debra Leigh, Organizer, Community Anti-Racism Education Initiative.
Self-Reflection Questions
- What are you taking away from today’s challenge?
- What does moving from non-racist to anti-racist look like in your life?
- Which of the 28 attitudes/behaviors from the list resonated with you most? How do you want to move from non-racist to anti-racist with regards to these attitudes/behaviors listed?
Please consider joining us for our next Equity Team meeting on Monday, May 8 at 3:45 pm in Room 3. Students, parents, staff, and teachers are all invited to participate.
