Profile

I graduated from UC Irvine with a degree in electrical engineering. I have three children; the last one finished at West. It was while helping him in his 3rd grade classroom that I realized I wanted to teach math.

This is my 8th year teaching, 3rd year at West.

My attitude toward math borders on traditional and unconventional—traditional since I have seen great improvements in students’ math ability through well-sequenced practice; unconventional because I do not test students’ recall. Instead, I emphasize problem-solving and reasoning, emphasizing the fact that high school math still boils down to adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. Homework is minimized as I believe the 50 minutes of serious engagement in classroom is enough to build the skills over the 180 days of school.
