CREATE Mentoring Program

Construction – Re-development – Engineering – Architecture - Trades – Education

The CREATE Mentoring Program exists to educate and inspire students to pursue career pathways which create the built environment. Industry professionals mentor student teams in a twelve-week competition to answer a real-world problem. Students learn about career opportunities in architecture, engineering, and the construction trades, visit local architecture and engineering offices, visit active construction job sites, attend Trades Day and compete with other regional high schools in front of industry judges.

Program Overview:
Students meet as a school team a minimum of 10 sessions during the Fall.
Students receive a problem to address in the built environment and work collaboratively with peers and industry mentors to develop a solution which they present at Competition Day.
Knowledge needed to solve the problem will be provided during working sessions and career presentations in construction, the trades, engineering and architecture.
A minimum of two field trips will be included:
Trades Day on October 3, 2019 where we anticipate nearly 2,000 high schoolers at Cal Expo for a half-day of hands-on career exploration activities.
Other suggested field trips can be to architectural firms, engineering offices, active construction job sites or apprenticeship training facilities.
The final three sessions are preparation for the competition which we plan to hold on December 11, 2019.
