Hispanic Heritage Month lasts from September 15 to October 15 each year. This period is observed by celebrating and acknowledging the history and culture of our ancestors with origins from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The timing of Hispanic Heritage Month coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of several Latin American nations. September 15 was chosen as it coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of five “Central American neighbors”, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua; these five countries declared their independence from Spain on September 15 (1821).
