Mary Lucca
Athletics Director and English Teacher
I feel fortunate to be a part of the West Campus community. This is my 14th year here. Currently, I am in my fifth year as the Athletics Director and am teaching English 11 and English 12. I have coached softball and served as an advisor for the classes of 2009, 2012, and 2015 (it’s a RED thing). Prior to West Campus, I taught middle school in Orange County, California.
I grew up in the Sacramento area, and after graduating high school, I attended Creighton University, CSU Sacramento, and CSU Fullerton.
Scott Mapplebeck
Science Teacher
With 25 years of experience in the field of education, I have taught a wide variety of subjects at West Campus and other schools. In the Sacramento City Unified School District, my courses have included Physical Science, Biology, Biophysical Science, AP Biology, Chemistry, and Honors Chemistry.
Since 2000, I have been a teacher at West Campus. In addition, I am currently the adviser for two academic, service organizations: National Honor Society (8 years) and the California Scholarship Federation (9 years).
John McMeekin
Principal
The 2023-24 school year will be my sixth full year as principal at West Campus High School and my 15th year at the site — having served the previous nine years as Vice Principal.
I grew up on the east coast, attending college at the University of Virginia. Prior to entering administration I taught mathematics at Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento (and several schools on the east coast).
Rita McNamara
School Counselor - College and Career Support
Rita McNamara is the new College and Career Support Counselor at West Campus. She joined the team at the end of November 2022. She has a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA and an M.A. in Counseling from Brandman University.
Originally from San Diego, she now lives in Folsom with her husband and two young sons. She has four children – 2 grown, a son in the Marines and a daughter at UC Davis, and two little boys in elementary school with special needs.
Lynette Meighan
Attendance Technician
Prior to coming to West Campus in 2014, I worked at Oak Ridge Elementary for 11 years. I am the Attendance Technician here, and I absolutely love it. When I began in the district, I always wanted to be either a Registrar or an Attendance Technician. My dream has been fulfilled.
Hannah Miller
Science Teacher
This is my first year at West Campus. I earned my B.S. in Forensic Chemistry from the University of Mississippi and have a passion for integrating real world applications of science content into my classes. I will be teaching Chemistry and AP Physics 1 this year. I look forward to engaging in learning with all of my students!
Kelly Moore
English Teacher
I started teaching at West Campus in 2004, and both of my daughters are alumnae of West, so the Warrior Community is dear to me. I am passionate about both the craft of writing and teaching high school, and I have found my niche teaching the AP Language and Composition courses. After serving 12 years as a class advisor (for the classes of 2009, 2013, and 2017), I became the ASB Advisor in 2018.
I earned my BA in English with a Creative Writing Emphasis from UC Davis and my master’s in Creative Writing from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Ray Navarrete
Counselor
This is the start of my seventh year at West Campus, and it’s hard to imagine a better community of people to work with! As a product of SCUSD, I’ve attended many of our district’s schools, married my high school sweetheart, and sent both of our children to our neighborhood schools. I believe in our community!
Shawna Placido-Bell
English Teacher
This will be my 25th year teaching at West Campus. I also graduated from West Campus, where I fell in love with this community and gained an understanding of how powerful a small high school community can be. Being a Warrior is a family affair, as my children have attended West or played a sport for West, and my husband has coached basketball. I graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Comparative Literature where my love of close reading, analysis, and critical thinking was fostered.
Tracie Podsednik
Spanish Teacher
I started at West Campus in 2005 and have really loved working with our students ever since! I studied Spanish and history at UC Davis and have a master’s degree in Spanish linguistics and literature from UC Santa Barbara. I have been lucky enough to live and study abroad in Mexico and Spain and strongly encourage my students to travel abroad as well. In my free time, I enjoy travel and try to escape to the mountains with my husband and son as often as possible.
